Games Done Quick is hosting a speedrunning marathon for coronavirus relief
Games Done Quick, the organization behind many popular speedrunning charity events, is hosting a special stream for COVID-19 relief. The event is called Corona Relief Done Quick.
While most of Games Done Quick’s event are hosted in-person, Corona Relief Done Quick will be hosted online to help prevent the spread of the virus. Like the organization’s normal events there will be speedruns of a variety of games ranging from classics to releases from the last several years. During each segment the speedrunner and a host will take over the stream explaining what they’re doing an reading out the donations that come in from viewers. You can find the full schedule of the event’s speedruns on the Games Done Quick website.
For Corona Relief Done Quick all of the donations to the event will go directly to Direct Relief, a humanitarian aid organization that seeks to “improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies.”
The creation of this new event comes just a few weeks after Games Done Quick announced that it was postponing its usual Summer Games Done Quick (SQDQ) event due to safety concerns related to the novel coronavirus. In hopes of finding a safer in-person environment for the event, Games Done Quick pushed SGDQ back to Aug. 16-23. Games Done Quick’s regular winter speedrunning event, Awesome Games Done Quick was hosted earlier this year in January and raised more than $3 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
Corona Relief Done Quick will be broadcast through the official Games Done Quick Twitch channel and will be live 24 hours a day until the event ends.
